 PRIZE WINNING CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE

 

 

2     cups granulated sugar                   1      cup butter ( 2 sticks )

2     cups flour                                      1      cup water

1/3  cup cocoa                                            1/2    cup buttermilk

1     tsp. baking soda                            2      eggs

1/8  tsp. salt                                         2 tsp. vanilla or flavoring

 

Combine sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt in large mixing bowl.

Mix well, heat butter, water in saucepan until boiling. Pour over dry ingredients and mix.

Beat in buttermilk, eggs, and flavor. Pour thin batter into greased & floured baking pan (15x10).

Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Serve hot or cold.  Makes 18 servings

 

FROSTING

 

1/2     cup  ( 1 stick ) butter                  4    cups powdered sugar ( 1 lb.)

1/4     cup cocoa                                   1    cup nuts  ( chopped )

6        tablespoons milk

 

combine butter, cocoa & milk in saucepan, heat until boiling. Pour in sugar & nuts, mix well. Spread on hot cake.

 

NOTE: MARGARINE OR SHORTENING CAN BE SUBSTITUTED FOR BUTTER
